Mt. Sinjar Commemoration
August 3rd, 2019, marked the fifth anniversary of the Mount Sinjar massacre of the Yezidis of the Sinjar region of Iraq by ISIS.
Over 10,000 Yezidis died. Over 3,100 were murdered. Many were executed by gunshot, beheading, or were burnt alive. As well, 7,000 Yezidi women and girls were abducted by ISIS.
There is a word for what the Yezidis have endured. It is genocide.
On August 4, 2019, supporters and friends, MPs and MPPs, and many organizations from the larger Canadian community joined with the Yezidi community in remembrance of those who died and were taken in August of 2014.
Among those at Queen's Park were survivors of the massacre and sexual slavery that followed.

Canadians care
Their journey from the unbearable pain and suffering of their captivity to the safety of Canada has begun their healing, and with the support of the Canadian community the GTA Yezidi community are starting their long journey on the road to recovery.
